Some shoots just deserve a ridiculous amount of color, and Pure Colors certainly fits the bill.
Between the hot pink and yellow backgrounds, teal lighting, checkerboard floor, and a few unexpected props, there was a lot going on in the best way. This Denver photography session gave us everything from traditional musician portraits to some pretty wild compositions.
Denver photography with a little more personality
There's nothing wrong with a classic press photo, but there's also no reason every musician needs to stand against a plain wall looking serious.
I love how much variety there is in these photographs. We've got sunglasses, dramatic shadows, hands reaching straight into the lens, and poses that are just plain fun. That's one of the things I enjoy about Denver photography for musicians. There's room to experiment.
When Denver photography gets colorful
The lighting might be my favorite part of this series. Pink fades into yellow, teal cuts across the subject, and some of those shadows practically become their own photographs.
That's the fun of creative Denver photography. Sometimes you can push the colors a little further and see what happens.
Denver photography on a checkerboard floor
And then there's the checkerboard floor. Paired with the bright backgrounds, plants, and other props, it gives the whole setup a slightly retro feel.
I especially like the wider photographs from this Denver photography session. There's something fun about seeing the entire set, including all those little details that make the environment interesting.
What to wear for colorful studio Denver photography
With this much color happening in the background, wardrobe makes a difference.
Pure Colors wore both a white outfit with dark trim and a black graphic shirt during this Denver photography session. The white outfit picked up the colorful lighting, while the darker clothing stood out against the bright backgrounds.
And, of course, there were sunglasses and a few different hats. Those little changes gave us more variety without needing to reinvent the entire setup.
Denver photography beyond the standard press portrait
I think musician press photos should leave room for personality. Not every image needs to be perfectly composed with someone looking directly at the camera.
This Denver photography session included different perspectives, exaggerated gestures, and some pretty entertaining uses of the foreground. The photographs with hands and sneakers coming toward the lens are a good example.
Sometimes changing your perspective is all it takes to make an image a little more interesting.
Denver photography with bold shadows
One more thing I really like about this collection is the way the shadows change with the lighting.
The blue setup brings a completely different look to this Denver photography session. The cooler background and contrasting warm shadows make the portrait feel graphic without needing much else in the frame.
It's a good reminder that a simple background can still give you plenty to work with.
